Dryft Board: A hybrid blend of BMX, skateboarding, and drifting

The Dryft Board, a product of California-based startup Dryft1, introduces a unique combination of BMX, skateboarding, and drift cart dynamics into the world of e-mobility. Designed by action sports enthusiasts, the Dryft Board is described as a “Hybrid Board Cross” that emphasizes the joy of carving, sliding, and flowing with control.

Inventor Nic Bartolotta highlights the experience: “The joy you get out of it is having a connection to movement that feels both instinctive and exhilarating – like you’re in total command of every shift, turn, and line you take.”

    Key features and design

The Dryft Board boasts a 500-W hub motor housed in its 16-inch front wheel, allowing riders to reach speeds of up to 20 mph (32 km/h). Powered by a 48-V, 698-Wh UL 2271-compliant battery, the board offers a range of 17-20 miles per charge, making it a viable option for extended rides.

The bamboo deck is equipped with a skateboard truck and independent suspension. A proprietary urethane caster, positioned near the rear, enables smooth sideways slides while offering the option to lock it for more stable cruising.

The rear of the deck features a skateboard truck with independent suspension and a caster wheel, designed for smooth drifting and sliding control.

At the front, BMX-style handlebars provide intuitive control, while a chromoly steel frame ensures durability. Additional features include illuminated foot pegs and a dual-beam, 1,000-lumen headlight for night riding. The Tektro hydraulic disc brake offers reliable stopping power.

    Usability and portability

Weighing 67 lb (30 kg), the Dryft Board isn’t the lightest option but can be disassembled into two components for easier transportation. It is rated to support riders up to 220 lb (~100 kg), making it accessible for a wide range of users.

“Across action sports, one of the most sought-after feelings is the ability to slide sideways with control,” explains Dryft1 CEO Ralph Zipper. “The Dryft Board changes that by making sliding accessible to everyone. It’s the most joyously freeing feeling imaginable.”

    Availability and pricing

As Dryft1’s flagship product, the Dryft Board will make its public debut at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Anaheim event on January 11. The board is available for purchase in blue or black, priced at $3,500.

Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce a mobile app to enhance the rider experience. The app will include features like board location tracking, remote locking, performance data monitoring, and route suggestions.
