Compact electric one-wheeler with big upgrades

Future Motion, a California-based company, has long been a pioneer in the electric one-wheeler market, having introduced some of the earliest models. Their latest addition, the Pint S, builds on the legacy of the popular Pint series by offering improved hardware and firmware upgrades over its predecessor, the Pint X.

Originally launched in 2019, the Pint was designed as a smaller, more affordable alternative to Future Motion’s XR model, which has now been replaced by the GT. The Pint X followed in 2021, offering double the range of the original Pint and a slightly faster top speed. The Pint S, introduced earlier this year, takes these advancements even further.

In terms of hardware, the Pint S offers several notable improvements. One of the key changes is the introduction of flared footpads, which are 15% larger than those on the X model. This larger surface area enhances comfort and accommodates riders with larger feet. The footpads also feature a curved design that provides added stability during rides.

Additionally, the Pint S includes a new rubberized aluminum carrying handle that folds neatly into the board when not in use. It also comes with a treaded tire that allows for smoother rides on various types of terrain, from city streets to rough trails.

The Pint S also improves on the battery range, extending it to 20 miles (32 kilometers), compared to the 18-mile (29-kilometer) range of the Pint X. Other firmware enhancements include a faster top speed of 20 mph, improved acceleration and braking power, and a new haptic feedback system that delivers both audible and tactile safety alerts to riders.

The Maghandle Pro features a sturdy aluminum build with an integrated rubber grip, offering a comfortable and durable way to carry the Pint S.

Riders also benefit from the upgraded Onewheel app, which now features a Custom Shaping tool. This feature allows users to wirelessly adjust settings like acceleration profile, turning compensation, and jump re-engagement for a more personalized ride.

While the Pint S offers these upgrades, many of them are also available for existing Pint X owners. The firmware improvements can be downloaded as software updates, and hardware enhancements like the larger footpads, folding handle, and treaded tire can be purchased separately. The total cost of upgrading a Pint X with these extras is $1,480, whereas the Pint S comes in at $1,400.
