California-based electric bike manufacturer Blix has unveiled the Vika X, a new folding commuter ebike designed to offer a smoother riding experience through automatic power and gear shifting. Capable of hauling over 300 pounds and functioning as either a Class 2 or Class 3 ebike, the Vika X comes equipped with a 70-mile battery, making it a versatile option for urban commuting and recreational riding.
Building on existing designs
At first glance, the Vika X resembles Blix’s existing folding ebike, the Vika+ Flex. Both models feature an aluminum alloy folding frame, but the Vika X introduces several enhancements. When folded, the Vika X measures 36 x 21 x 29 inches (914 x 533 x 736 mm), slightly larger than the Flex, which folds down to 36 x 21 x 28.5 inches. The new model weighs in at 61 pounds (27.6 kg).

Advanced motor and automatic shifting
The Vika X is powered by a 500-watt geared rear hub motor, delivering 55 Nm (40.5 lb.ft) of torque. Riders can choose from three levels of pedal assist or utilize an automatic mode that adjusts motor power and shifts through the Microshift 8-speed gearset based on factors like cadence, bike speed, motor output, and hill gradient. This feature aims to optimize performance and provide a seamless riding experience.
Improved sensor technology and speed options
Replacing the cadence sensor found in the Vika+ Flex, the Vika X incorporates an advanced torque sensor for more responsive acceleration. Out of the box, the bike meets Class 2 ebike standards with a top speed of 20 mph. Riders have the option to unlock the bike to reach Class 3 speeds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h). A twist throttle is also available for quick acceleration from a standstill or for assistance when climbing hills.
Enhanced load capacity and cargo options
While not specifically marketed as a cargo bike, the Vika X ships with a rear rack compatible with the MIK mounting system, allowing riders to haul gear conveniently. The bike supports a load capacity of 312 pounds (141.5 kg), including the rider, making it suitable for carrying additional luggage or groceries.

Extended battery life and connectivity
Positioned behind the seat tube is a 614.4-Wh removable battery, similar in capacity to that of the Flex model. Blix has optimized the system to achieve a per-charge range of up to 70 miles (112.6 km), which should accommodate most daily commutes. The bike features a color display that automatically adjusts to ambient light conditions for easy status checks. Additionally, the Vika X is compatible with a companion mobile app, allowing riders to adjust settings and receive firmware updates for future enhancements.

Safety and additional features
The Vika X comes equipped with 20-inch wheels fitted with 2.4-inch puncture-resistant tires. For reliable stopping power, it utilizes hydraulic disc brakes with 180-mm rotors. Safety features include an electronic horn, a low/high-beam headlight capable of 120 lux, and a braking tail-light with turn signals. Plastic fenders are also included to protect against splashes.

Company perspective
“This new Vika X represents a significant leap forward in our mission to integrate health and activity into everyday life,” said Pontus Malmberg, Blix founder and CEO. “With its combination of cutting-edge technology and enhanced safety features, it’s a compelling choice for both urban commuting and recreational riding.”
Availability and pricing
The Blix Vika X is certified to UL 2849 safety standards and is currently available for pre-order in four color options. Priced at US$1,699, the bike includes a free carry bag to protect it when folded and stored. Additional accessories such as bags and baskets can be purchased separately.
