The versatility of shipping containers continues to inspire innovative architectural solutions, with Backcountry Containers introducing a new backyard addition: the SaunaPlunge Container. This compact unit transforms a standard 20-ft (6-m) shipping container into a combined sauna and plunge pool, offering a unique recreational space that can be easily installed in residential settings.
The SaunaPlunge Container is divided into two main sections. The sauna portion measures 7 x 7 ft (2.1 x 2.1 m) and is designed to comfortably accommodate four adults. The interior features cedar tongue and groove walls, providing a traditional sauna ambiance. Generous glazing allows natural light to permeate the space, enhancing the overall experience. Additional amenities include a stereo system for entertainment and an electric sauna heater to achieve optimal temperatures.
Adjacent to the sauna, the plunge pool measures 7 x 10 ft (2.1 x 3 m) and is equipped to hold up to six adults. The pool includes aluminum stairs for easy entry and exit, as well as lighting and seating for comfort.
It boasts insulation and comes with both a propane-powered heater and an inverter heater/chiller. This dual heating and cooling system enables the pool to function as either a hot tub or a cold plunge pool, catering to varying preferences. The pool has a capacity of 1,800 gallons (approximately 8,200 liters), providing ample space for relaxation.

For those interested in this backyard addition, the SaunaPlunge Container is priced at US$49,500. Construction takes approximately 10 weeks from the time of order, and the unit is delivered on a large trailer ready for installation. Backcountry Containers also offers options for those who prefer only the pool component, with both 20-ft (6-m) and 40-ft (12-m) container pools available.
