In an era increasingly focused on sustainable transportation, the Greek startup Gloubos introduces an innovative blend of functionality and eco-friendliness with their e-quadricycles, Orion and Ilos. These vehicles merge the benefits of an electric bike with the enhanced stability and comfort of a compact car, making them an ideal choice for urban commuting.
The Orion model is particularly designed for the solo commuter. It features a unique open-sided composite body mounted over a sturdy metal frame, providing both protection and visibility. A single bucket seat accommodates the rider who can propel the vehicle using both pedals and a 250-watt mid-mounted motor.
This hybrid approach allows the Orion to reach a top assisted speed of 25 km/h (16 mph). Powered by a 20-Ah lithium-ion battery, the Orion offers a range of up to 50 km (31 miles) on a single charge, which can be further extended with an optional solar panel installed on the roof.
To enhance the riding experience, the Orion is equipped with mountain bike-style front suspension forks that help absorb road bumps, ensuring a smoother ride. Safety is addressed with hydraulic disc brakes on all four 20-inch wheels. In a modern twist, the traditional side mirrors are replaced by small external cameras that display feeds on smartphone-sized screens inside the vehicle, adding to the Orion’s sleek design.

Additional features that increase its practicality include a 5-speed automatic drivetrain, a full LED lighting system with turn indicators, and an LCD screen for vital vehicle statistics. The vehicle also sports a padded dashboard to prevent injuries while pedaling. Weighing in at 105 kg (231 lbs), the Orion is light enough for easy handling yet robust enough for daily use.

For those needing more cargo capacity, the Ilos model offers a substantial upgrade. It features a spacious 107-cm-long by 80-cm-wide (42.1 by 31.5 in) cargo bed, which can also be replaced with an enclosed box for secure transport. The Ilos can carry loads up to 180 kg (397 lbs), making it a highly functional vehicle for businesses or heavy-duty tasks. Similar to the Orion, it includes a 250-watt motor and a top speed of 25 km/h, but it supports dual batteries for extended range and weighs 155 kg (342 lbs).

Both models are already available for purchase. The Orion is priced at approximately €7,799 (about US$8,356), while the Ilos, with its enhanced cargo capabilities, comes at around €11,599 (about US$12,427). These prices position the e-quadricycles as a premium but practical solution for individuals and businesses looking for an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional vehicles.
Gloubos’s e-quadricycles offer a compelling combination of ease, efficiency, and eco-consciousness, making them a notable option in the landscape of urban transportation solutions.
