California-based Addmotor has introduced a new addition to its Grandtan electric trike series, the Grandtan X. This e-trike is designed for both stable, motor-assisted city rides and rugged off-road adventures, equipped with front and rear suspension and fat tires to absorb bumps effectively.
One of the standout features of the Grandtan X is its robust motor. Unlike many electric trikes that limit motor assistance to 14-15 mph, the Grandtan X is powered by AddMotor’s proprietary 750-W rear-mounted motor, which peaks at 1,400 watts. This motor produces 90 Nm (66 lb.ft) of torque and can reach speeds of up to 20 mph (32 km/h) across seven levels of pedal assistance. The motor’s torque sensor at the bottom bracket ensures responsive and natural assistance, enhancing the overall riding experience.
For those who prefer not to pedal, especially on inclines, the e-trike offers a half-twist throttle. This feature allows riders to ease into traffic from a standstill without exerting much effort. Behind the seatpost, a 960-Wh Li-ion battery pack composed of Samsung 21700 cells powers the Grandtan X. This battery is certified to UL 2271 safety standards, ensuring peace of mind while riding.
In real-world testing, the e-trike achieved up to 85 miles (136.8 km) of per-charge riding at the lowest pedal-assist setting, with a full charge taking 8-10 hours using the included 48-V2-A DC charger.

The Grandtan X’s drivetrain includes a Shimano Tourney 7-speed derailleur, offering ride flexibility and ease of handling various terrains. Additionally, the rear differential allows the rear wheels to adjust to different speeds and terrains, enhancing stability and control.
The frame of the Grandtan X is made from 6061 alloy, featuring a low-step wooden board that serves as a footrest while throttling. The e-trike’s suspension system includes a lockout suspension fork and two rear shocks, designed to smooth out rough rides. The front wheel, measuring 24 inches in diameter, is fitted with a 4-inch-wide fat tire, while the rear wheels are 20 inches in diameter, also with fat tires. This combination ensures stability and comfort across different surfaces.

Safety is a key focus for the Grandtan X, equipped with Tektro mechanical disc brakes that include motor cutoff and 180-mm rotors on each wheel. A newly designed parking brake system helps prevent rollbacks on inclines, adding another layer of safety. For added convenience, the e-trike features a padded seat with a backrest, a backlit display showing key ride data, and a USB port for charging mobile devices. The integrated headlight and 5-in-1 tail-light, which includes braking and turn signaling functions, enhance visibility and safety during rides.
The Grandtan X also includes practical features such as aluminum fenders to control splashes, a waterproof storage bag with a reflective strip to keep belongings dry, and a total payload capacity of 450 lb (204 kg), accommodating the rider and gear in the front basket. The back tube has been enhanced for trailer hook-up, providing additional cargo-carrying options.

Currently, the Grandtan X e-trike is available for pre-order at a price of $3,399, which is $200 off the expected retail price. This pre-order offer makes the Grandtan X an attractive option for those seeking a versatile and robust e-trike for both urban and off-road use.
