    World’s first multi-modal biped robot

The Tron 1 biped robot, manufactured by Chinese robotics company LimX Dynamics, is designed as a versatile platform for engineers and researchers in humanoid motion control and embodied intelligence. It builds on the company’s earlier work with the P1 Biped robot, which was demonstrated earlier this year traversing difficult terrain while enduring stress tests. The Tron 1 robot shares similar capabilities, with enhanced features to support its primary role in research.

Standing at 854 mm (33.6 inches) tall and weighing under 20 kg (44 pounds), the Tron 1 offers a robust but lightweight design. It’s powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, and its lithium battery provides more than two hours of runtime on a 1.5-hour charge. Made from a combination of aluminum and plastic, the robot can serve as a testbed for a variety of tasks in robotics research, particularly in the field of humanoid locomotion.

One of the Tron 1’s key features is its ability to switch between three interchangeable foot-ends, allowing it to adapt to different types of locomotion. The Point-Foot, a rounded rubberized nub, offers nimble movement and was the foot-end used in the P1’s earlier woodland terrain test. The Sole foot-end mimics a more human-like walking gait, while the Wheeled foot-end allows the robot to roll quickly across flat surfaces. For uneven terrain, the robot can lock the wheels and use them as feet.

The robot is controlled either via an included wireless remote in real time or autonomously through Python programming. Its hardware recognition system automatically detects which foot-end is attached, adjusting its motion-control software accordingly. The modular design includes expansion ports for peripherals like cameras and lidar units, making it highly adaptable to various research applications.

The Tron 1 is said to be ready for action, whether walking or rolling, straight out of the box.

While it may not be ready for fighting intergalactic rebels, the Tron 1 provides a valuable tool for engineers and researchers to explore bipedal locomotion and other advanced robotics tasks. For those interested in acquiring one, LimX Dynamics offers limited-time introductory pricing starting at $15,000.
