Bugatti has introduced the Brouillard, a one-of-a-kind hypercar developed as the debut project under its new ultra-exclusive Programme Solitaire. The model draws inspiration from founder Ettore Bugatti’s favorite horse, both in name and design details, and has been commissioned by a client who also owns notable pieces of Bugatti family art and furnishings.
Programme Solitaire builds on the company’s existing Sur Mesure customization service, which tailors existing models, by allowing clients to create entirely unique cars. Bugatti will limit Solitaire production to no more than two vehicles per year, ensuring each remains completely bespoke.
The Brouillard shares its powertrain with the high-performance Bugatti Chiron. Under its bodywork sits the brand’s most advanced 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, producing 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While Bugatti has not released performance figures, the similarly powered open-top Mistral can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.4 seconds and reach 261 mph (420 km/h), suggesting comparable capabilities.
The car is built on a carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis and features adjustable suspension and wide tires. The exterior finish is a distinctive two-tone, combining satin green paint on the upper body with green-tinted exposed carbon fiber below. Bugatti design director Frank Heyl describes the look as resembling “a kind of athletic muscle, like a trained horse.” The flanks incorporate side blades behind the front wings reminiscent of the Bugatti Divo, while a fixed ducktail rear wing contributes to aerodynamic balance. A specially designed rear diffuser “maximizes the functional surface area through innovative exhaust packaging, representing the culmination of W16 platform development,” according to the company.
The horse motif continues inside, where bespoke tartan fabrics from Paris feature embroidered horse designs on the seats and door panels. The gear shifter, machined from a single block of metal, contains a hand-sculpted miniature of Ettore Bugatti’s horse encased in glass. A glass canopy finished in green and green-tinted carbon fiber frames the interior, with the darker lower body contrasting against lighter upper sections to visually reduce the car’s silhouette.
Bugatti has confirmed that future Solitaire commissions will follow the Brouillard’s template: a unique exterior design, heavily customized interior, and a high-performance drivetrain sourced from existing models. While pricing for the Brouillard has not been disclosed, it is expected to exceed the Mistral’s US$5 million starting price.
The Brouillard will be showcased at Monterey Car Week, which runs until August 17, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to view this one-off model in person. With its blend of heritage-inspired detailing, bespoke craftsmanship, and extreme performance, the Brouillard underscores Bugatti’s commitment to catering to the most exclusive tier of its clientele.
