The Hardkorr Xplorer has earned a reputation as one of the most compact and feature-rich off-road micro-campers available. Now, with the introduction of the Xplorer 2.0 “Shorty,” Hardkorr has made significant modifications to enhance its practicality without sacrificing functionality. The most notable change is the reduced height, allowing the trailer to fit comfortably under the average 210-cm-high (6.9-ft) Australian garage door. This lower profile means the Xplorer 2.0 Shorty can be stored in smaller spaces, such as an apartment garage, while still providing robust capabilities for off-grid adventures.
Design and dimensions
The Xplorer 2.0 Shorty measures 198 cm (6.5 ft) in height, a reduction aimed at increasing its accessibility for urban dwellers. To balance this reduced height, the trailer’s length has been extended by 27 cm (10.6 in), resulting in a total length of 4.1 m (13.5 ft). Despite this compact size, the trailer retains a substantial cargo capacity of 3,450 liters, only slightly less than its predecessor by 450 liters.
Kitchen and storage features
The left side of the Xplorer 2.0 Shorty is equipped with two upswinging hatches that reveal a fully functional kitchen. The main slide-out section includes a sink with a collapsible basin, flanked by a Dometic dual-burner stove and a worktop. Above this, a pantry area provides ample shelving and storage for cookware and dry food. The rear hatch accommodates a fridge slide that can hold a 96-liter fridge/freezer, along with an additional worktop space. This area also houses the electrical command center, featuring dual 100-Ah AGM batteries, a 40-A DC-to-DC charger, and a solar hookup, ensuring reliable power for off-grid excursions. A 270-degree awning extends over the kitchen area, providing shade and protection from the elements.
Right-side features
On the right side, the trailer includes storage hatches for batteries and additional gear. This side also features a drop-down privacy tent for the outdoor shower, connected to an instant water heater that serves both the shower and kitchen sink. Freshwater is supplied by two tanks, with capacities of 100 liters and 70 liters, mounted beneath the electro-coated aluminum body of the trailer.

Rooftop tent access
A standout feature of the Xplorer 2.0, carried over from the original model, is the innovative rooftop tent access. The chassis-mounted steps include two fixed steps and a deployable lower set that creates a staircase, making it easier and safer to climb up and down compared to a traditional ladder. This is particularly useful during nighttime bathroom trips. Hardkorr has applied for a patent for this staircase design. A deployable fabric roof serves as an additional awning over the entryway, providing protection from the weather. The tent itself is spacious, featuring a dual-lift design around a 140-cm-wide (55-in) double mattress.

Construction and performance
Living up to its “Hardkorr” name, the Xplorer 2.0 is built with a galvanized steel chassis, heavy-duty independent suspension with dual gas shocks at each wheel, and 16-in alloy wheels fitted with 265/75 R16 MT tires. The trailer boasts 50 cm (19.7 in) of ground clearance to the water tank, a 25.3-degree approach angle, and a 59-degree breakover angle, ensuring it can handle tough terrains with ease. The dry weight of the trailer is 1,300 kg (2,866 lb), allowing for a payload capacity of 900 kg (1,984 lb).

Market and pricing
Hardkorr introduced the Xplorer 2.0 last year, maintaining the same base price as the original Xplorer at AU$35,990 (approximately US$23,420). This pricing strategy positions the Xplorer 2.0 as an accessible yet highly capable option for adventure seekers. For American overlanders, Hardkorr’s presence at last year’s SEMA Show indicated the company’s plans to expand into the US market. Already known for its off-road lighting, camping, and power products, Hardkorr’s entry into the American camper market adds another robust option for enthusiasts, joining the ranks of Australian brands like Track Trailers and Kimberley Kampers.
