Velomobile built for speed, efficiency, and open-road endurance

Velomobile World has introduced the Bülk Distance, a high-performance velomobile engineered with a strong focus on long-distance road cycling. Developed as an evolution of the earlier Bülk MK1, the Bülk Distance combines aerodynamic precision, structural efficiency, and accessible maintenance features, making it a viable option for serious riders covering extended routes outside urban settings.

At its core, the Bülk Distance is designed to prioritize aerodynamic efficiency. The shape of the vehicle has been refined using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with input from Prof. Dr. h.c.-Ing. Eric Helter, known for his work with racing teams from Porsche, KTM, and Lamborghini.

According to the manufacturer, the Bülk Distance is now the fastest model in the Bülk series. While the company doesn’t publish exact top speeds, rider feedback from previous models suggests average cruising speeds of 34–36 km/h, with peak speeds exceeding 50 km/h under ideal conditions. The improvements in the Distance model are expected to meet or surpass those numbers.

Weighing approximately 25 kilograms, the Bülk Distance measures 265 cm in length, 69 cm in width, and 86 cm in height. These compact but streamlined dimensions help minimize drag while maintaining internal comfort. The ground clearance is kept low—8.5 cm at the front and 8 cm at the rear—which improves aerodynamic stability but makes it less suitable for city use or rough surfaces. In fact, Velomobile World clarifies that the Distance is optimized for long-distance road cycling and not designed for urban environments. Its limited turning radius and low clearance emphasize its purpose-built nature.

One of the highlights of the Bülk Distance is the introduction of “Drag & Grab” technology, which simplifies user access to key components for maintenance. This includes an oversized bow opening that facilitates easy inspection and installation of bottom bracket motors, external openings at the front wheel arches for tubeless tire servicing, and a larger rear derailleur service hatch to make cassette adjustments and wheel removal easier. These enhancements aim to make long-distance travel more practical by reducing service downtime and improving user autonomy.

The Bülk Distance also reflects a targeted design approach where weight and aerodynamic tweaks come with trade-offs in maneuverability. Unlike the Bülk 4 More or Bülk Urban models, the Distance is not optimized for stop-and-go traffic or tight urban corners. Instead, it is intended for open-road environments where long, uninterrupted stretches allow its speed and efficiency advantages to be fully realized.

Color customization is available, and the Bülk Distance is now listed on the company’s web store. According to the official site, the price for a standard configuration starts at €12,185. The vehicle is available to order directly from Velomobile World via their online platform, where customers can choose from a range of component options and finishes.

With a clear focus on long-haul cycling, the Bülk Distance is a purpose-driven vehicle that prioritizes speed, aerodynamic performance, and serviceability. It appeals to a specific rider demographic: those who value endurance, efficiency, and practical design over urban convenience. As Velomobile World notes, “We optimized the Bülk Distance for high-speed travel over long distances—less for city streets and traffic lights.”
