The Volonaut Airbike looks like something straight out of Star Wars

The Volonaut Airbike is a new concept in personal aerial mobility that blends jet-powered propulsion with motorcycle-style design. Developed by Tomasz Patan, co-founder of Jetson and a known figure in the eVTOL community, the Airbike aims to offer individuals a practical and compact flying experience without wings or rotors.

Unlike many electric VTOLs that rely on open propellers or multi-rotor configurations, the Volonaut Airbike utilizes a jet propulsion system. This approach allows the vehicle to eliminate traditional exposed blades, potentially improving safety, although jet propulsion may result in higher noise levels compared to electric rotors. According to the company, the Airbike is capable of reaching top speeds of up to 200 km/h (approximately 124 mph).

The Airbike’s frame is constructed using lightweight carbon fiber components and incorporates 3D-printed elements to optimize structural integrity while keeping weight low. Volonaut claims that the entire vehicle is “7x lighter than a motorcycle,” which is a significant factor in its lift and control system.

To assist with stability, the Airbike includes a proprietary flight control system that enables automatic hovering and intuitive rider control. This makes it more accessible to users who may not have prior piloting experience. The onboard system helps manage balance and altitude, allowing the rider to focus on navigation rather than complex flight dynamics.

Visually, the Airbike resembles a sport motorcycle and is designed to offer a panoramic 360-degree view. The riding posture and exposed cockpit reinforce the experience of flying in open air—closer to the sensation of riding a speeder bike from science fiction than piloting a small aircraft.

The design prioritizes direct connection between rider and environment. As described on the official website, “You fly out, zoom above the land, explore the horizon and glide back as if in a dream.” That philosophy is reflected in the streamlined silhouette and compact scale of the vehicle.

In terms of status, the Airbike is still at the prototype stage and not yet available for commercial purchase. The company has not released pricing or launch timelines. However, teaser videos and test demonstrations have generated attention, especially given the vehicle’s sci-fi-inspired aesthetic and unusual approach to propulsion.

As interest in personal flight continues to grow, the Volonaut Airbike adds another concept to the evolving list of electric and jet-powered mobility solutions aimed at short-distance travel and urban exploration.
