Compact and travel-friendly design
The Baby Box is designed for easy transport and setup. Weighing 2,900 lb (1,315 kg) with a 1,000-lb (454-kg) hitch weight, it can be towed by most SUVs or trucks, much like a traditional bumper-pull RV. In its travel mode, the home measures 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) wide and 14 ft 9 in (4.5 m) long, making it smaller than many cargo trailers. Once unfolded, it expands significantly to 14 ft 9 in (4.5 m) long, 14 ft 1 in (4.29 m) wide, and 9 ft 3 in (2.82 m) high, providing more than twice the width compared to its travel configuration.
A self-contained living space
Inside, the Baby Box offers 120 sq ft (11.15 sq m) of insulated and climate-controlled living space. A 9,000-BTU ductless air conditioning unit with a heat pump ensures comfort in both warm and cold weather. The home runs on dual 12-volt deep cycle batteries, powering its lighting and water pump, along with a 6-gallon (23-L) electric water heater. Water storage includes 30-gallon (114-L) black, grey, and freshwater tanks, with standard RV-style hose and sewer connections.
Functional features for daily living
Despite its small size, the Baby Box is designed for practical living. The multi-purpose living room doubles as a bedroom with an in-house designed “SLS” (Sit, Lounge, Sleep) sofa. This transforms into a bed in the same way a jackknife sofa works—by pulling a loop at the top.
The kitchen comes equipped with a small 3.2-cu-ft (0.09-cu-m) refrigerator and a countertop induction stove. A deep drop-in kitchen sink is fitted into laminate countertops, and USB outlets are included for charging small electronics.
The bathroom features a marine-style toilet with a foot-operated flush and a shower enclosed with glass walls, complete with a moon roof for natural lighting. A 12-volt vent fan ensures ventilation.
Stability and off-grid capability
Unlike many tiny homes that rely on a towable base, the Baby Box’s tow hitch folds away, allowing it to sit on firm ground or a prepared foundation for better stability. This helps eliminate the movement associated with traditional RVs when people walk inside.
For those considering off-grid living, the Baby Box is solar-compatible and can also run on a 4.5-kW generator, making it a viable option for remote locations or extended trips.
Pricing and availability
Boxabl has priced the Baby Box at an introductory rate of US$19,999, with a planned price increase of an additional $10,000 later. Buyers have the option to either pick it up from the company’s Las Vegas, Nevada warehouse or have it delivered.
