Transforming RV elevates Cybertruck’s camping potential

The Tesla Cybertruck has garnered a mixed reception, particularly regarding its potential as a camping vehicle. With its futuristic, angular design, many have found it to be a less-than-ideal candidate for outdoor excursions. Various attempts to integrate the Cybertruck into the camping world, including specially designed pickup campers, have largely failed to make it an appealing option. However, Living Vehicle, a company renowned for its high-end luxury trailers, aims to change this perception with its newly conceptualized Cybertrailer.

Living Vehicle, a California-based company, has carved out a niche in the luxury camping and mobile living space. Known for designing off-grid trailers that are more akin to mobile luxury apartments than typical RVs, they offer products equipped with cutting-edge technology and high-end materials. Their sleek aluminum cladding matches perfectly with the Cybertruck’s stark stainless steel exterior, making the combination visually cohesive.

    First look at the Cybertrailer

Although Living Vehicle has yet to reveal a physical prototype, it has provided a more detailed rendering of the Cybertrailer, showcasing both its interior and exterior features. This new model is designed to pair seamlessly with Tesla’s Cybertruck, but it can also be towed by other capable vehicles, including electric models like the Rivian R1T or more traditional heavy-duty diesel trucks.

At 27 feet (8.2 meters) in length, the Cybertrailer is larger than some might expect. It sits between Living Vehicle’s HD24 and HD30 trailers, giving it a mid-sized profile. Despite its length, the trailer is impressively light for its size, weighing in at 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg), which is about half the weight of the shorter HD24. This relatively lightweight design, although still substantial, means that towing the Cybertrailer with an electric vehicle such as the Cybertruck might reduce the vehicle’s overall range, but not enough to be a dealbreaker for most users. Gross vehicle weight is estimated at 9,000 pounds (4,080 kg).

    Living Vehicle Cybertrailer Towing
The Cybertrailer is compatible with various tow vehicles, but its design and all-electric functionality are specifically tailored to complement the Cybertruck.

One standout feature that Living Vehicle is developing for the Cybertrailer is proprietary electric-assist axles. These axles will help the trailer move its own weight, effectively reducing the load on the tow vehicle. This technology could be a game-changer, especially for those planning longer trips with electric vehicles. In addition, the trailer can be fitted with up to 5,000 kilowatts of solar panels, ensuring that it can harvest significant amounts of energy to keep both the electric-assist system and living area appliances powered. This feature positions the Cybertrailer as an excellent option for off-grid living.

Energy and water solutions for off-grid adventures

The Cybertrailer is designed to be entirely self-sufficient, with a focus on sustainability. In addition to its extensive solar energy capabilities, the trailer also features an onboard Level 2 EV charger. This allows owners to recharge their electric tow vehicle using stored energy, potentially preventing any issues with running out of battery power in remote areas. While recharging using solar energy might take time, it provides a practical solution for those who venture far off the grid.

The Cybertrailer offers abundant solar power, water generation, and recycling systems, enabling extended off-grid camping.

Water management is another area where the Cybertrailer shines. The trailer is equipped with an innovative water generation system that can produce up to 34 liters of water per day by extracting moisture from the air. This means that campers won’t need to rely solely on external water sources. In addition, a water recycling system helps stretch water supplies even further, making the trailer a true off-grid solution for extended stays in remote locations.

    Design and interior features

The Cybertrailer’s exterior design is clearly influenced by the Cybertruck, featuring a sleek, futuristic appearance that may appeal to some but could feel too stark for others. However, this design isn’t just for looks. The trailer boasts a drag coefficient as low as 0.39, closely matching the Cybertruck’s aerodynamic performance. This could help reduce energy consumption during towing, although the impact on overall efficiency remains to be seen.

The divided kitchen provides ample room for prepping, cooking, and serving meals.

Inside the Cybertrailer, Living Vehicle has spared no expense in creating a luxurious living space. Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by high-end materials like marble countertops and wood-grain paneling, along with large windows that let in natural light. The kitchen is spacious and equipped with modern appliances, including an induction cooktop, electric oven, and dishwasher, all powered by the trailer’s electric system.

The bathroom offers a spa-like experience with a marble-walled shower, rainfall showerhead, teak flooring, and a glass door. Opposite the shower, a separate room houses the toilet and sink, providing privacy and functionality. There’s also a washer and dryer, ensuring that campers can maintain a high level of comfort, even in remote locations.

    Six-in-one living space

One of the most innovative aspects of the Cybertrailer is its flexible six-in-one living space. The open concept layout can be adjusted to serve different purposes depending on the time of day. By default, the rear of the trailer features a large sofa lounge. During meals, the space transforms into a five-seat dining area, and at night, it can be converted into sleeping quarters capable of accommodating four adults and one child. This adaptability makes the Cybertrailer suitable for various types of trips, from solo adventures to family vacations.

The living area can also serve as a home theater with reclining couch seats and a complete entertainment system. For those who need to work while traveling, the trailer includes a mobile office setup, complete with a Starlink satellite internet connection and a two-person workstation. The desk is cleverly integrated into the design, folding out from the base of the love seat.

Lastly, the Cybertrailer’s rear deck doubles as a toy-hauling garage. Campers can load motorcycles, electric bicycles, and other recreational gear onto the deck using a built-in ramp. Tie-down points ensure that everything stays secure during transport. There’s also an exterior gear locker for smaller items like surfboards and skis, providing a place to store wet clothing and equipment.

    Smart features and additional amenities

Living Vehicle has included a range of smart home features in the Cybertrailer, enhancing convenience and control. Campers can manage various systems, including lighting and climate control, through a mobile app. The trailer also includes automated window shades, a HEPA air filtration system, and home security hardware. A 7-foot skylight with electrochromic glass lets in natural light during the day and can be adjusted for privacy at night.

    Pricing and availability

Living Vehicle plans to launch the Cybertrailer in 2025. Although the trailer is still in the rendering phase, potential buyers can place a reservation with a $100 refundable deposit. The estimated starting price is $175,000, positioning the Cybertrailer firmly in the luxury RV market. While this price may be steep for some, the combination of high-end materials, off-grid capabilities, and smart technology may justify the cost for those seeking a premium camping experience.
