As camping and outdoor adventures continue to gain popularity, especially following the pandemic, compact and versatile trailers have captured significant interest. One such trailer is the Let’s Go Aero (LGA) Crashpad, a minimalistic pop-up camper designed specifically for ease of use, versatility, and affordability. Originating from a rugged cargo-hauling design, the Crashpad effortlessly transforms into a practical pop-top camper suitable for wilderness camping.
The Crashpad is essentially an upgrade kit available for LGA’s existing LittleGiant and SpecOps cargo trailers, rather than a standalone trailer model. Introduced initially in 2008, the LittleGiant trailer gained recognition as a robust, versatile utility trailer modeled after a pickup truck bed. Its design has evolved over the years, but its essence remains the same—a U-shaped tub constructed from powder-coated galvanized steel with removable front and rear walls. This feature offers more versatility compared to conventional pickup beds, allowing for transportation of oversized cargo such as lumber or paddleboards.
The LittleGiant, designed as a 3/4-ton trailer, supports a payload of 1,500 pounds (680 kg) and boasts an all-terrain platform. Its heavier-duty counterpart, the SpecOps trailer, handles an increased payload capacity of 2,000 pounds (907 kg). With an upgraded torsion axle, larger wheels, mud-terrain tires, and an additional five inches (13 cm) of ground clearance totaling 20 inches (51 cm), the SpecOps is clearly tailored for more demanding off-road adventures. Both trailers measure identically at 86 x 54 x 24 inches (218 x 137 x 61 cm), offering uniformity in design and function.
The core of the Crashpad’s conversion kit is the Hexcap—a strut-assisted hard tonneau cover made from UV-resistant polypropylene composite. Its dome-like shape not only enhances overall cargo capacity but also provides extra headroom within the camper setup. This cover doubles as a secure, lockable lid for protecting gear stored inside, although locks must be purchased separately.

Setting up the Crashpad as a camper involves attaching waterproof-coated 185D Cordura fabric via heavy-duty Velcro, eliminating the need for any tools during installation. This fabric component includes two side windows, an entry door screen with zippered weatherproof shades, and an awning for protection from sun and rain. The straightforward design allows for quick conversion from trailer to comfortable camper space within a few minutes.
Inside the camper, Let’s Go Aero has innovated by including a foldable polypropylene sleeping platform supported by five steel beams secured to standard rails along the sidewalls. The sleeping platform measures 75 x 54 inches (191 x 137 cm)—equivalent to a full-size bed—and comfortably sleeps two adults with approximately 48 inches (122 cm) of headroom at its highest point. Though LGA does not provide mattresses, the platform is compatible with standard mattresses or sleeping pads.

A significant advantage of the elevated sleeping platform is that campers can conveniently store their gear beneath it, in a space 21 inches (53 cm) high. When traveling, this platform can also serve as a cargo shelf, with ample vertical space of up to 24 inches (61 cm). When not in use, it neatly folds down, requiring minimal storage space.
An additional thoughtful design feature is the multifunctional tailgate, upgraded specifically for the Crashpad kit. It converts easily into a durable outdoor table, bench, or cooking station, and includes a foam seat pad insert for extra comfort. Moreover, the tailgate can be relocated from the rear to either side of the trailer, providing versatile usability without obstructing interior access.
Considering overall weight, the Crashpad package adds approximately 110 pounds (50 kg) to the base trailers. As a result, the total weights become 590 pounds (268 kg) for the LittleGiant and 670 pounds (304 kg) for the SpecOps. Despite these modest weights, both options remain relatively easy to maneuver and tow.

According to the manufacturer, the simplicity of the Crashpad system aims to provide a versatile yet uncomplicated camping solution. Marty Williams, President of Let’s Go Aero, highlights the approach: “We’ve essentially created a pop-up wedge tent on wheels.” The setup process involves minor tasks such as securing fabric, setting up the sleeping platform, and arranging the awning, collectively requiring only a few minutes.
The Crashpad camper seems ideally suited not just as a primary camping setup but also as a supplementary sleeping space for families or guests. It conveniently addresses the dual need of transporting gear and providing comfortable overnight shelter.

For pricing, the LittleGiant Crashpad camper is available at US$6,998, while the ruggedized SpecOps variant is priced slightly higher at $8,198. Additionally, existing trailer owners or those seeking flexible solutions can purchase the Crashpad conversion kit separately. This kit retails for $2,999 with the Hexcap tonneau cover or $1,499 for users who already own the Hexcap.
All components, including the trailers and Crashpad conversion hardware, are shipped as bolt-together kits requiring user assembly. This ensures reduced shipping costs and allows owners a hands-on approach to assembling their camping rig, making it accessible even for those new to trailer camping.
Overall, the Let’s Go Aero Crashpad camper offers a functional and versatile option for campers looking for simplicity and practicality in their outdoor experiences.
