Tentsla, a Colorado-based startup, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a unique camping accessory that adds a four-person tent to the back of the widely owned Tesla Model Y SUV. The Tentsla X1 tent is designed for use with the Model Y’s “camper mode,” which automatically modulates the electric SUV’s heating and air conditioning for the comfort of people sleeping inside the vehicle or in the attached tent.
The X1 is attached to the rear of the Model Y via a tent-flap “tunnel,” which sticks to velcro strips located around the perimeter of the SUV’s open hatch. The setup takes just five minutes, and an included pump is used to air up the tent’s inflatable frame.
The X1 reportedly sleeps up to four people in its main compartment, which measures approximately 220 cm long by 210 cm wide by 180 cm tall (87 by 83 by 70 in). Moreover, a couple of other folks could also sleep in the back of the Model Y, especially if it’s equipped with a custom-fit mattress like the Dreamcase.
The X1 features a pole-suspended front awning that extends out from the tent’s zippered full-width front entrance, a rear awning that shades the SUV, and one side awning that extends over a full-width side entrance. The construction materials of the X1 include waterproofed Oxford polyester fabric for the body and floor, Oxford-covered TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) for the air columns, Terylene nylon mesh for the insect netting, and matte-black-coated aluminum for the awning poles. The entire setup weighs 21 kg (46 lb) and packs down into an included bag, which can be stored in the Tesla’s lower trunk or in its “frunk” (front trunk).
If Tentsla X1 reaches production, a pledge of US$599 will get you one, while the planned retail price is $1,199. The X1 is an exciting development for those who love camping and own a Tesla Model Y. The tent is designed to be versatile, durable, and comfortable, providing an additional sleeping space for four people. The awnings provide additional protection from the elements, ensuring a more enjoyable experience.
Furthermore, the X1’s lightweight and compact design allow for easy storage and transportation, making it an ideal accessory for those who love to travel and explore the great outdoors. Check out a demo of the Tentsla X1 in the video below.
