Aerial photography has transformed the world of content creation, from nature documentaries to real estate showcasing and personal vlogs. But while the concept of a drone might conjure images of an elaborate, hefty quadcopter, ZeroZero Robotics has disrupted the paradigm with the introduction of the Hover Camera X1 drone. Designed to simplify drone operation, this pocket-sized marvel brings power and accessibility in a package easier than ever to use.
The Hover Camera X1 is a successor to the Hover 2 and the original Hover Camera, retaining their innovative designs. The X1’s unique hinged body allows it to be folded down into a lightweight package of just 125 grams (4.4 ounces). The dimensions, an ultra-compact 127 by 86 by 31 millimeters (5 by 3.38 by 1.22 inches), make it ideal for users on the move.
One of the key safety features of the X1 is the protective caging around the propellers, eliminating the risk of injury when launching from your hand. The drone can be airborne within a swift three seconds, providing instant access to aerial imaging.
The versatility of the X1 is emphasized by its multiple control methods. Users can control the device remotely or choose preprogrammed flight modes through an accompanying iOS or Android app. The X1, however, adds a new layer of convenience. It can be operated without a smartphone or remote, thanks to a simple button on the drone. This allows users to select from five flight modes: Hover, Follow, Zoom Out, Orbit, and Bird’s Eye, catering to a range of aerial videography needs.

The camera capabilities of the X1 are equally impressive. It shoots video at a resolution of 2.7K/30fps, ensuring crisp, high-definition footage. To maintain smooth and level recording, the X1 utilizes both a mechanical gimbal and an electronic image stabilization system. For still photography, it captures images at a 12-megapixel resolution. All media files are stored on the drone’s 32GB internal memory.
Real-time image transmission to the app is possible through Wi-Fi connectivity, up to a maximum distance of 30 meters (around 98 feet).
Powering the X1 is a 1,050-mAh lithium battery, offering around 11 minutes of flight time per charge. Though brief, this flight time is adequate for most recreational and professional aerial photography needs.

The Hover Camera X1 drone is the centerpiece of an ongoing Indiegogo campaign. A pledge of $329 could secure one of these drones, assuming the campaign’s success. Once available in the retail market, the X1 is expected to be priced at $469. Considering its portability, intuitive operation, and impressive imaging capabilities, the X1 offers an accessible entry point to the world of aerial photography and videography.
