E-bikes have been evolving to offer enhanced performance and functionality for a myriad of uses. Now, the e-mobility company, Ride1Up, has unveiled a fresh contender in this expanding market with the Rift fat-tire eBike, a versatile ride designed to transform daily commuting into exciting off-road experiences.
The Rift comes as a follow-up to the February release of the Turris adventure commuter. However, it distinguishes itself with a more rugged design, intended for all-terrain commuting. The eBike even comes with an option for a passenger kit that can be installed on the rear cargo rack.
At the heart of the Rift is a 750-W (48-V) geared rear-hub motor that provides a robust 95 Nm (70 lb.ft) of torque, enough to tackle city commutes and challenging terrains beyond. The eBike comes as a Class 2 model, with a maximum speed of 20 mph/32 km/h, which can be unlocked to Class 3, elevating the top speed to 28 mph/45 km/h.
While the Rift fat-tire eBike employs a cadence sensor, a departure from the more responsive torque variant, it features a Shimano SL-M315 8-speed drivetrain for diverse gear selection. The 960-Wh downtube battery, composed of Samsung or LG cells, offers the convenience of indoor charging and is lockable, thus adding a layer of security.

In terms of its physical design, the Rift sports 26-inch wheels with 4-inch puncture-resistant Kenda Krusade fat tires, designed for absorbing bumps on uneven surfaces. The suspension fork offers 120 mm of travel and features a lockout option for flexibility. Additionally, the four-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180-mm rotors provide reliable stopping power and include a motor cut-off.
The Rift’s aluminum alloy frame is available in two models: step-over or step-through. The step-over variant is designed for riders between 5.5 to 6.3 ft (1.67 – 1.93 m), while the step-through version caters to those measuring 5.08 to 6.16 ft (1.54 – 1.87 m). With a heavy-duty rear rack, the Rift can carry up to 150 lb (68 kg) of cargo, compatible with Connect+ accessories like a basket or panniers, and can accommodate a passenger with the addition of a $125 passenger kit.

The Rift’s additional features include an 80-lux Buchel Shiny headlight, Velo Edge braking tail-light, a 2.2-inch color LCD display that shows eBike status and allows for custom PAS adjustment, and full alloy fenders for protection from road debris and weather conditions.
Priced at $1,895, the Rift eBike is an affordable, versatile option for those looking for both daily commuting convenience and the thrill of off-road adventures. The total weight capacity of the Rift is 350 lb (158.75 kg), offering significant haulage capability. This eBike is another demonstration of Ride1Up’s commitment to performance, value, and affordability in the e-mobility sector.
