Carrying a bag on a bicycle often forces riders to choose between wearing a backpack, fitting a permanent rack or letting something swing from the handlebars. The FLECTR CargoMate front bike rack offers another option: a lightweight load platform that installs without tools and can be removed again in about 30 seconds.
The German-designed rack attaches around the handlebar and stem rather than relying on fork eyelets or a model-specific mounting kit. FLECTR says that makes it suitable for almost any conventional upright bicycle, including many road bikes, commuters and e-bikes.
It is not intended to turn an ordinary bike into a heavy-duty cargo cycle. Its maximum rated load is 5 kg (11 lb). Within that limit, however, it could provide a convenient place for a work bag, groceries, picnic supplies or other everyday cargo while keeping the load visible in front of the rider.
A front rack without permanent hardware
The CargoMate is built around a one-piece tubular stainless-steel frame. A weather-resistant tarpaulin panel stretches across the frame to create the loading surface, while a bungee loop threaded through six eyelets helps secure objects placed on top.

Despite using steel, the complete rack weighs only 670 g (1.5 lb). Its trapezoidal base measures approximately 210 to 240 mm (8.3 to 9.4 in) wide, depending on where it is measured, and the rack is 190 mm (7.5 in) high.
It is better understood as a removable platform for a modest bag or bundle than a replacement for a dedicated cargo-bike system.
How the 30-second mounting system works
Two rubberized hooks at the upper end of the rack sit over the handlebar. A webbing strap links the hooks beneath the stem, while a second retention strap wraps around the steerer area. Once both are tightened, the rack projects forward over the front wheel.

No tools, bolts or frame modifications are required. The rack can therefore be removed when it is not needed instead of remaining on the bike throughout every ride.
FLECTR specifies compatibility with round handlebar mounting sections measuring 22.2 to 35 mm in diameter, without separate adapters. The design still has limits: unusually shaped integrated cockpits, bikes without a conventional stem, or handlebars with no free round section beside the stem may not work.
Riders should therefore inspect the mounting drawing and check CargoMate compatibility and campaign details before ordering.
Designed to carry different shapes
Unlike a rigid basket, the platform leaves the top and sides open, accommodating different shapes provided they remain within the weight limit and are secured against movement.

The package includes the frame, cover, two handlebar protectors, bungee loop, adjustable load strap and retention strap. Optional lashing straps and carabiners can restrain awkward items.
FLECTR offers polished stainless-steel or black semi-matte frames, along with several fabric and bungee colors.
What carrying weight at the front means
A handlebar-mounted load behaves differently from luggage carried low on a rear rack. It can influence steering, particularly at low speed or if the cargo shifts. Riders should begin with a light load, secure it tightly and test the bicycle in a safe area.
The cargo must not obscure lights, interfere with brake or gear cables, contact the tire, or restrict steering. As with any bicycle rack, the rider remains responsible for checking the straps and load before setting off.

Its main advantage remains the ability to add modest carrying capacity for one journey, remove the rack afterward and potentially use it on another compatible bicycle.
Price, campaign and expected shipping
The CargoMate product page currently lists the rack for preorder at €99. FLECTR says shipping is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026. Orders containing other products are expected to ship together with the rack rather than separately beforehand.
Crowdfunding pledge prices may differ from the standard preorder listing. Readers can view the current CargoMate campaign offer for the latest reward, shipping and destination information.
As with any crowdfunded hardware project, a pledge is not the same as buying an already stocked retail product. Manufacturing schedules, delivery dates and final details can change, so prospective backers should review the campaign’s terms and risk disclosures.

CargoMate occupies a useful middle ground. It carries less than a permanent heavy-duty rack, but it is much easier to install and remove. For commuters and recreational riders who occasionally need space for a small bag, its combination of broad compatibility, low weight and tool-free mounting could be more valuable than outright load capacity.
The key is choosing it for the right job: light, securely strapped cargo on a compatible cockpit. Those interested can learn more about the FLECTR CargoMate and check the latest campaign options.
