Electric vehicles (EVs) have increasingly become the focal point of modern transportation solutions, not just for personal use but also in various commercial and industrial applications. The Paxster eCompact and eStretch utility vehicles, distributed exclusively by BOSS ORV in the UK and Ireland, exemplify this trend. These vehicles are designed for agility, practicality, and eco-friendliness, making them ideal for a wide range of environments from urban settings to rural landscapes.

Key features and specifications

The Paxster eCompact is a single-seat, electric utility vehicle that stands out for its compact design and versatile functionality. It features a top speed of 37 mph and a payload capacity of 240 kg. Its true range of 72 miles on a single charge ensures that it can handle a full day’s work without needing a recharge. Additionally, the vehicle produces zero emissions, making it an environmentally friendly option for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

The eCompact’s dimensions (2484 mm in length, 1170 mm in width, and 1880 mm in height) and lightweight construction (460 kg) enable it to navigate tight spaces with ease. The vehicle’s drivetrain is a 2×4 RWD Enhanced Traction system, providing ample torque (380 Nm) and power (7.48 kW) for various applications.

A notable feature of the eCompact is its 10 kWh LiFePo4 battery, which offers robust energy storage and a long lifespan. Charging the battery from 0 to 100% takes approximately 9 hours, facilitated by an onboard charger. This battery powers not only the vehicle but also auxiliary equipment up to 3 kVa, thanks to the PaxPower system, which effectively converts the vehicle into a mobile power bank.

Cargo and equipment versatility

One of the eCompact’s major strengths is its versatile cargo space. The rear cargo bed measures 1057 x 857 mm and features a detachable tailgate and sides, allowing it to accommodate a standard pallet. The waterproof plywood floor adds durability, while the front cargo platform offers additional storage space. This design ensures that the vehicle can carry a wide variety of tools and equipment, making it suitable for tasks ranging from maintenance to logistics.

The FlexiRack Pro system further enhances the vehicle’s utility by providing an adaptable framework for attaching different types of holders and attachments. This system allows users to customize the vehicle’s setup based on specific needs, ensuring that it can handle a diverse range of tasks efficiently.

Ease of use and safety

The Paxster eCompact is designed with user-friendliness in mind. Its intuitive interface features minimal buttons and switches, making it easy to operate even for those with minimal training. The low and narrow floor, along with a handlebar for support, ensures quick and comfortable entry and exit. The vehicle’s design also provides excellent visibility, with a full 360° view from the driver’s cabin.

Safety is a paramount consideration in the eCompact’s design. The vehicle includes a 43.5-degree tipping point and deformation zones to protect occupants in case of a collision. The three-point safety seat belt and advanced collision- and tilt-detection systems, integrated via Paxster Connect, further enhance safety during operation.

Environmental and operational benefits

One of the standout advantages of the eCompact is its eco-friendliness. Being 100% electric, it produces no emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment. Its quiet operation makes it ideal for use in noise-sensitive areas such as campuses, parks, and residential neighborhoods.

The vehicle’s energy-efficient motor and drivetrain technology maximize energy utilization, providing a range of 72 miles on the energy equivalent of one liter of diesel. This efficiency translates to reduced operating costs, making the eCompact an economically viable option for businesses looking to minimize expenses without compromising on performance.

Winter-ready and multi-surface mastery

The Paxster eCompact is built to perform reliably in various conditions, including winter. Its semi-open cabin design shields the driver from the elements while allowing easy access and exit. The vehicle’s lightweight construction and open differential ensure that it can navigate delicate surfaces such as indoor arenas, greenhouses, and manufacturing plants without causing damage.

For outdoor use, the eCompact’s robust construction and optimal weight distribution provide superior traction on surfaces like asphalt, gravel, and grass. While it is not a 4×4 vehicle, its RWD system is more than adequate for most everyday applications.

The introduction of the eCompact and its larger counterpart, the eStretch, to the UK and Ireland markets is a significant development. BOSS ORV, the sole distributor in these regions, has been tasked with building a network of dealers to ensure these vehicles are accessible to a wide range of customers. The vehicles were officially launched at the LAMMA agricultural show at the NEC in January, showcasing their potential to a broad audience.

The eStretch model offers a larger payload capacity of 400 kg, catering to those who require additional cargo space and carrying capacity. Both models are built in Norway to high standards, ensuring durability and reliability in various operating conditions.
