As winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, outdoor enthusiasts face the challenge of staying warm during their adventures. Mammoth Overland aims to address this with the WLY, or “Wooly,” an off-road camper designed to maintain comfort in harsh, sub-zero environments.
Built for the cold
The Wooly is equipped with a wool-lined interior, robust insulation, and high-performance heating systems. Its walls and ceiling feature an R12 insulation rating, comparable to many homes, while the floor offers an impressive R25 rating. In contrast, typical travel trailers generally have an R5 rating. These features ensure that warmth is preserved even in the most extreme conditions.
The camper is outfitted with a VarioHeat 11,500-BTU furnace capable of heating the interior to a toasty 85°F (29°C), even with the kitchen and doors wide open at an outside temperature of 27°F (-3°C). “Our engineers exceeded my wildest dreams,” says Scott Taylor, president of Mammoth Overland. “During testing, we were able to maintain 85 degrees inside the trailer, even with the kitchen and both doors wide open.”
Versatile insulation for all seasons
The Wooly’s insulation isn’t just for cold climates. It helps maintain comfortable interior temperatures year-round, making the camper versatile for various weather conditions. For warmer days, an optional 12-volt Dometic 2000 RTX air conditioner, rated at 6,600 BTU, is available. This system can run for days on battery power alone.

Designed for snowy adventures
The Wooly’s rugged build makes it ideal for winter excursions. It comes with Toyo Open Country A/T III 3PMS tires, specifically designed for extreme snow and ice conditions. Additionally, the camper includes nine 20,000-lb (9,072-kg) recovery points for added safety in challenging terrains.
An outdoor kitchen is a staple feature of Mammoth Overland’s rigs, and the Wooly is no exception. To suit its Arctic-oriented design, the camper includes an annex over the rear hatch, retaining warmth while preparing meals. A 23ZERO Bushman awning also provides a space to shed wet, cold gear before entering the camper.

Practical features inside and out
The Wooly’s interior balances comfort and functionality. The king-size bed is heated and lined with hypoallergenic, fire-resistant wool, offering a cozy retreat after a day in the cold. The camper also includes a 21-gallon freshwater tank with heated lines, ensuring water remains liquid even in temperatures as low as -20°F (-29°C).
Storage and utility are key components of the camper’s design. The roof features a full-length observation deck, roof rack, and built-in holders for skis. It also comes equipped with recovery gear, including Maxtrax MKII boards, an ice axe, snowshoes, a Krazy Beaver shovel, and Rotopax fuel packs. Exterior lighting and a light bar further enhance its usability in remote settings.

Powering the adventure
The Wooly is designed for off-grid adventures, thanks to an 800-Ah battery pack from Renogy and two 100-watt solar panels. These systems ensure a reliable power supply for extended trips. Additionally, a 4,000-watt WEN generator provides backup power when needed. Shore power compatibility adds to its versatility.
Pricing and availability
Fully loaded, the Mammoth Overland Wooly is priced at $56,900. The company is currently accepting deposits, with deliveries expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025. For those looking to prepare for next winter’s adventures, the Wooly offers a compelling option for cold-weather camping.
