However, the builders at Make It Extreme aimed to shift this perception by swapping an 1100cc internal combustion engine (ICE) for an electric drive in their latest project.

This initiative led to the creation of Project 149, which is not just a modification of their previous work but a complete rebuild with significant improvements. The outer wheel, measuring 145 cm (57 inches) in diameter, is wrapped in a custom tire made from combining three motorcycle tires. The propulsion system is particularly innovative. Two motors, originally from a hoverboard, are now housed within a go-kart tire located beneath the banana seat. These motors drive the outer wheel, allowing the monowheel to move forward with substantial force. The use of coil shocks helps absorb bumps, enhancing the ride quality.

Motor controllers are linked to a throttle, providing what the builders describe as “explosive torque.” The battery pack is strategically mounted in a frame at the front of the seat and below the handlebar. Additionally, a side kickstand has been installed to facilitate easy parking.
Despite these advancements, the electric monowheel remains a challenging vehicle to control. It is still considered dangerous to ride, reinforcing its reputation as a novel but impractical mode of transport. Nevertheless, its unique design and powerful performance continue to captivate enthusiasts.
