Freezable titanium plate keeps coolers cold without taking up much space

Ice packs are useful, but their bulky plastic shells can consume valuable space inside a tightly packed cooler. The Frost Titan Core Plate takes a flatter approach, combining a 99.9% pure-titanium exterior with a phase-change cooling material inside.

The reusable plate measures 165 × 104 × 10 mm (6.5 × 4.1 × 0.4 in) and weighs 270 g (9.5 oz). At only 10 mm thick, it can sit beneath food or slide along the side of a cooler without occupying as much usable volume as many conventional cold packs.

Designed to freeze quickly

Titanium conducts heat more readily than the plastic normally used for cold-pack casings. This allows heat to move out of the internal cooling material quickly when the plate is placed in a freezer—and back into it from the cooler’s contents during use.

Storage LLC, the Japanese company marketing the product, says the plate can become usable after approximately one hour in a freezer. For its longest cooling performance, however, the company recommends freezing it more thoroughly rather than relying on the shortest preparation time.

Inside is a mixture incorporating pure water, glycerol and a latent-heat storage material with a stated freezing point of -10°C (14°F). According to the company’s testing, the titanium cooling plate can remain below 0°C (32°F) for approximately 12 hours.

That figure should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every cooler will stay below freezing for 12 hours. Actual performance will depend on the freezer temperature, cooler insulation, surrounding temperature, quantity and starting temperature of the contents, number of plates used and how frequently the lid is opened.

Reusable and safe beside food

The titanium exterior is corrosion-resistant, washable and less prone to retaining odors than many plastics. Storage LLC says it is food-safe and can be placed directly alongside packaged food and drinks. Unlike loose ice, it does not melt into water that can soak labels, packaging or food at the bottom of a cooler.

Its thin profile could make it useful for picnics, camping, packed lunches, frozen-grocery trips and small coolers where every centimetre of storage matters. Buyers with larger coolers may need several plates, since cooling capacity still depends on the total amount of cold material inside.

Pricing and availability

The Frost Titan Core Plate is being offered through Kickstarter, with campaign pledges starting at approximately $79 and an expected retail price of $113. Worldwide fulfillment is currently planned for February 2027. Shipping is charged separately, with US and Canadian delivery estimated at roughly $25–$36. As with any crowdfunded product, manufacturing schedules, final specifications and delivery dates can change, and backing a campaign is not the same as purchasing an item already held in retail inventory.

The Frost Titan Core Plate’s attraction is straightforward: it packages reusable cooling material inside a durable, exceptionally thin shell. Whether it outperforms a good conventional pack in a particular cooler will depend on real-world conditions, but the space-saving format could be its most immediately useful advantage.
