In the realm of electric-assist mountain bikes (eMTBs), a common challenge has been the cumbersome task of loading these heavy bikes onto vehicle racks. Addressing this issue, Portland, Oregon-based Suweeka has introduced the Bike Lifter, a modular rack system uniquely designed to simplify the process of transporting eMTBs.

The Suweeka Bike Lifter system stands out for its user-friendly design, which eliminates the need to physically lift eMTBs onto the vehicle rack. This innovative approach caters to the inherent weight of eMTBs, which are significantly heavier than traditional mountain bikes. The system is composed of two primary components: the Quick Connect Hitch Cleat (QCHC) and the bike tray. The QCHC is designed to mount effortlessly onto any standard 2-inch trailer hitch, serving as the foundational element of the system.

The most notable feature of the Bike Lifter is its ground-level loading capability. The bike tray, when connected to the QCHC, lies flat on the ground for most vehicles. This ground-level positioning is a game-changer, as it allows users to simply roll their eMTBs on and off the tray without the strain of lifting. This feature not only enhances convenience but also promotes a safer loading and unloading process, especially for heavier eMTBs.

Transportation is just as effortless. Once the eMTB is loaded, the tray and its payload are raised off the ground and secured against the back of the vehicle. This is achieved through a hand crank included in the system, or alternatively, a power drill supplied by the user. The bike itself is secured in place with wheel tie-down straps within the tray’s gutter and a hinged stabilizer bar, which attaches to the bike frame via an adjustable-position coupler. For added convenience, the tray can be folded up 90 degrees to rest flat against the vehicle’s hatch or tailgate when not in use.

Suweeka has tailored the Bike Lifter system to various needs by offering it in one- and two-tray models. The pricing is set at $2,200 for the single-tray model and $2,600 for the two-tray version. Each tray is capable of handling a maximum weight of 120 lb (54 kg), making the system versatile enough to transport certain electric motorbikes as well.

In addition to its primary function, the Bike Lifter system is designed with future expandability in mind. Suweeka plans to introduce a range of gear-transporting attachments for various outdoor activities. These attachments are intended to slide easily on and off the QCHC, enabling users to switch between different modules, such as from a bike tray to another type of gear carrier.

The Bike lifter allows you to raise your bikes into transit position, and to lower your bikes when you arrive at your destination.

Prospective buyers should note that Suweeka will commence preorders for the Bike Lifter system on December 15th. An incentive is being offered to early adopters: the first 100 purchasers will receive a $100 discount and will be part of the initial production run. The schedule and quantity for subsequent production runs will depend on consumer demand.
