Orbit rotating bed helps users get in and out of bed with the touch of a button

For someone living with Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis, a neurological condition, or recovering from surgery, getting out of bed can be one of the most difficult parts of the day.

Standing up often requires twisting, pushing, or relying on someone else for assistance—tasks that can become increasingly difficult as mobility declines.

The Theraposture Orbit range was designed to change that.

Instead of simply adjusting the backrest or raising the legs like a conventional adjustable bed, the Orbit performs a carefully controlled sequence of movements. At the touch of a button, it profiles into a sitting position, rotates toward the bedside, adjusts to an appropriate transfer height, and helps position the user to stand safely.

The goal is simple: make one of life’s most routine activities easier while reducing physical strain on both users and carers.

More than a traditional adjustable bed

Most adjustable beds improve comfort while sleeping or sitting up to read or watch television.

The Orbit range goes much further by focusing on independent transfers.

Rather than expecting the user to swing their legs over the side of the bed and push themselves upright, the Orbit performs multiple powered movements in sequence, including:

  • Backrest profiling
  • Leg elevation
  • Bed rotation
  • Height adjustment
  • Controlled positioning for standing

Because every movement is programmable, the bed can be individually configured to match the user’s height, weight, mobility, strength and transfer requirements.

Theraposture Orbit 235 Rotating Bed
The Orbit 235 helps users transition from lying down to standing with powered rotation, profiling, and height adjustment.

According to Theraposture, every Orbit bed is assessment-led and specified for both the individual and their home environment rather than being supplied as a standard off-the-shelf product.

Configured around the user

One of the biggest strengths of the Orbit range is its flexibility.

All Orbit models can be configured for users between 4 ft 10 in and 6 ft 6 in (147–198 cm) and feature a wide range of personalised positioning settings to suit different mobility needs.

Every model also shares several core features, including:

  • Powered assistance getting into and out of bed
  • Standing assistance at the touch of a button
  • Lying-to-standing transition in less than one minute
  • Height adjustment
  • Profiling with a rising heel pad
  • Pressure-relieving mattress options
  • Home assessment before installation
  • Three-year warranty
  • Battery backup

The result is a bed that’s designed around the individual rather than asking the individual to adapt to the bed.

Four models for different lifestyles

Rather than offering a single rotating bed, Theraposture has developed four different Orbit models to suit different users and living arrangements.

Orbit 235

The Orbit 235 is the core model in the range and delivers the full rotating transfer experience.

At the press of a button, it helps users get into bed, out of bed and into a standing position while offering extensive personalised adjustment settings.

The bed supports users from 4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 6 in and up to 31 stone (200 kg / 441 lb).

Its package includes a pressure-relieving mattress, sheets, battery backup, home assessment, delivery and a three-year warranty.

The Orbit 235 is currently available from £8,995 as a special offer (reduced from £10,950) or from £65 per week through Theraposture’s rental programme.

Orbit 235X Divan

The Orbit 235X Divan offers the same rotating technology in a more furniture-style design.

Theraposture Orbit 235X Divan Rotating Bed
The Orbit 235X Divan combines rotating bed technology with upholstered or oak surrounds for a more furniture-style appearance.

Available with upholstered fabric or oak surrounds, it blends more naturally into a modern bedroom while retaining the full transfer capabilities of the Orbit system.

Like the Orbit 235, it accommodates users between 4 ft 10 in and 6 ft 6 in and up to 31 stone (200 kg /441 lb).

Pricing starts from £9,995 (reduced from £11,950) with rental options available from £72 per week.

Orbit 235X Combination

For many couples, declining mobility can eventually mean sleeping in separate bedrooms.

The Orbit 235X Combination is designed to help avoid that.

One side of the bed provides the full rotating transfer system while the partner’s side can be configured with different profiling functions. Both mattresses remain level alongside one another, and the two beds can later be separated if care needs change.

The Combination model also supports users up to 31 stone (200 kg /441 lb) and includes both mattresses, sheets, battery backup, assessment, delivery and a three-year warranty.

Pricing starts from £12,500. Rental options are not currently available.

Theraposture Orbit 235X Combination
The Orbit 235X Combination allows couples to remain together while providing powered rotating assistance on one side of the bed.

Orbit 335HD

The Orbit 335HD is the heavy-duty member of the family.

Designed for bariatric users, it supports people weighing up to 47 stone (300 kg /661 lb) while still providing the same powered rotating transfer technology.

Like the other Orbit beds, it can move users from lying down to a standing-ready position in less than one minute, helping reduce the effort required during transfers.

The Orbit 335HD starts from £14,950, with rental options available from £85 per week.

Helping users—and carers

While the Orbit range is designed to increase user independence, it can also reduce the physical demands placed on carers.

Repeatedly helping someone sit up and stand can place considerable strain on the back, shoulders and knees.

By rotating, profiling and raising the user into an optimal transfer position before assistance is required, the bed can significantly reduce manual lifting during everyday care routines.

Its adjustable working height can also help carers provide support without excessive bending.

Designed for everyday comfort

Transfer assistance is only one part of the Orbit experience.

The beds also function as fully featured profiling beds for everyday comfort, offering programmable positioning throughout the day and night.

Pressure-relieving mattress options are available to help improve comfort and support skin integrity, while optional side rails and support handles can provide additional security where required.

Theraposture Orbit 335HD Bariatric Rotating Bed
Designed for bariatric users, the Orbit 335HD supports people weighing up to 47 stone (300 kg / 661 lb) while providing the same rotating transfer technology.

Because every bed is individually specified, users receive a solution tailored to both their medical needs and their home environment rather than a one-size-fits-all product.

Try before you buy

Choosing a specialist mobility bed is a significant decision.

To help users make the right choice, Theraposture offers free home demonstrations, allowing prospective customers to try an Orbit bed in their own home before purchasing.

Every installation begins with an individual assessment to ensure the chosen configuration best matches the user’s mobility requirements, bedroom layout and future care needs.
