San Francisco-based CyCrown has introduced a new low-step, fat-tire ebike designed to cater to a broad range of riders. The CycVerve, as it’s called, offers an affordable entry point into the world of electric biking, with a price tag of just $1,049.99. While its features make it suitable for urban commuting, it also holds its own when tackling off-road adventures. CyCrown aims to make ebikes more accessible and versatile, and the CycVerve is a key part of that mission.
CyCrown, which was founded in 2018, already offers a range of ebikes, including folding models and cargo bikes, as well as a more powerful high-step adventure bike called the CycUltra. However, the CycVerve sets itself apart with a low-step design, which CyCrown says is “particularly beneficial for those wearing dresses or seniors with reduced flexibility and mobility.” This step-through aluminum-alloy frame makes the bike easier to mount and dismount, expanding its appeal to a wider audience.
One of the standout features of the CycVerve is its 750-watt rear-hub motor, which peaks at 1,000 watts. This provides ample power for city riding, reaching speeds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h) under Class 3 operation. The motor also offers 72 Nm of torque, which helps with tackling hills and other challenging terrains. Riders can choose from five levels of pedal-assist, allowing for flexibility depending on their energy levels or riding conditions. Additionally, a Shimano 7-speed gearset is included to offer more control, especially when navigating inclines.
Powering the CycVerve is a 748.8-Wh lithium-ion battery that is integrated into the bike’s downtube. This battery provides more than 60 miles (96.5 km) of range when using the lowest pedal-assist setting, making it a viable option for longer rides or commutes. Recharging the battery takes approximately 4-5 hours with the included 54.6-V/2-A charger, making it fairly convenient for daily use.
Comfort and safety are also high on the list of priorities for this model. The CycVerve is equipped with a suspension fork to smooth out bumpy terrain, while its 4-inch-wide puncture-resistant fat tires wrapped around 26-inch wheels offer both stability and traction. Hydraulic disc brakes provide “swift and natural stopping power,” ensuring control even during sudden stops. A “mushy padded saddle” adds to the comfort, and front and rear lighting enhance visibility, making it safer to ride in both daytime traffic and low-light conditions. A side kickstand is also included for convenient parking.
For tech-savvy riders, the CycVerve comes with a mid-handlebar color display that shows essential ride data such as speed and battery life. Additionally, a USB port is integrated into the display, allowing riders to charge their mobile devices on the go.
Safety certifications are also a notable aspect of the CycVerve. It has been tested and certified to meet UL 2849 standards, which assess the safety of ebike electrical systems, ensuring peace of mind for users.
The CycVerve is available in four color options and comes with fenders and an ebike bottle cage included in the purchase price, adding even more value to an already attractive offering. At just over $1,000, this ebike strikes a balance between affordability and a feature-rich experience, making it an appealing choice for a wide variety of riders, from urban commuters to off-road enthusiasts.
