The Colibri M22 electric moped is a game-changer in the world of urban transportation. Designed by Petre Georgescu, the mastermind behind the Hummingbird e-bike, this innovative and foldable electric moped is built for the adventurous urban rider. The Colibri M22 is lightweight, highly customizable, and equipped with a variety of accessories to fit different needs.
Georgescu conceived the Colibri M22 as a starting platform with plenty of power and off-road capability which can be easily tucked away after a commute. Built out of the designer’s own workshop located 50 km away from Bucharest, the concept derives as a resolution to provide commuters with a better alternative to uncomfortable and polluting forms of transportation.
The folding electric motorcycle features a foldable frame that allows it to be stored easily in small spaces such as balconies and under stairways. The mechanism allows the rear shock to be detached from the swingarm, and the swingarm folds outward towards the belly of the bike. Once you reach your floor, you simply unfold the bike and wheel it into your apartment or office space. This feature makes it perfect for city-dwellers who need a compact and lightweight electric moped to navigate the congested streets of a busy city.
Weighing in at just 30 kg without batteries, the Colibri M22 has a longer range than other electric motorcycles, able to travel up to 200 km on just one full charge. The moped is equipped with three modular batteries that can be separated and charged independently of one another, or simultaneously. Each battery can be used individually or simultaneously, depending on whether you’re looking to maximize range or minimize weight.

The Colibri M22 also has two riding modes. The city mode makes it street-legal via a B license in Europe, and the off-road mode is perfect for travelers who love trailing through forests and mountains. The off-road setting has a top speed of 90 kph and can only be used when off-road. The moped is powered by a 3-kilowatt (4-horsepower) hub motor that provides the propulsion for the folding electric motorcycle. In road mode, speed is limited to 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour), but off-road mode boosts the power to 16 kilowatts or around 21 horsepower and allows you to hit speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour or around 56 miles per hour.

Georgescu’s folding electric motorcycle is highly customizable, and comes equipped with a variety of accessories to fit different needs. For example, the moped can be fitted with a front rack for carrying cargo or a rear rack for carrying an additional battery. The moped also comes with a variety of lighting options, including front and rear lights, turn signals, and brake lights. The Colibri M22 also features a LCD display that provides real-time information on speed, battery life, and other important metrics.
According to Georgescu, the Colibri M22 is designed to provide commuters with a better alternative to uncomfortable and polluting forms of transportation. “I move a lot, and the daily hours spent in traffic seem like a tragedy to me, especially since the distances traveled daily in big cities are increasing,” he explains. “With Colibri, the cost of one commute could be as much as a cup of coffee per month.”

The Colibri M22 electric moped is currently in the pre-sales phase for the US and European markets, and will soon be launched through a crowdfunding campaign on the Colibri website. The moped is expected to be a popular choice for city-dwellers who need a lightweight and compact electric vehicle that can be easily stored and charged. With its long range and off-road capabilities, the folding electric motorcycle also appeals to those who want to explore the great outdoors and commute on bike paths or off-road trails.
The company aims to make the electric moped more accessible and affordable for people who want to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment. In addition to being eco-friendly, the Colibri M22 is also designed to be comfortable and easy to use, with features such as a step-through frame, adjustable seat and handlebars, and a digital display that shows speed, battery level, and other useful information.
