For decades, office ergonomics has focused on helping people find the “perfect” sitting position. Ergonomic chairs have become more adjustable, standing desks have become increasingly common, and countless workplace products promise to improve posture. Yet many people still end the workday with stiff backs, sore hips, tired legs, or aching shoulders after spending hours at a desk.
Movably believes the problem isn’t necessarily how people sit—it’s how long they stay in the same position.
Rather than encouraging users to remain seated or standing for extended periods, the company has developed Movably Pro, an interactive smart chair designed to encourage regular posture changes throughout the workday. Instead of constantly adjusting desk height or reminding yourself to get up, the system is built around one central idea: keep your body moving while you continue working.
A different way to think about office ergonomics
Traditional ergonomic furniture is often designed to help users maintain a comfortable posture for long periods. Movably takes a different approach.
According to the company, modern ergonomics research increasingly supports posture variation rather than remaining in one “ideal” position throughout the day. In other words, there may not be a single perfect posture—instead, the healthiest posture is often your next one.
That philosophy shapes every aspect of Movably Pro’s design.
Instead of acting like a conventional office chair, it allows users to transition between multiple supported working positions while remaining at the same workstation. The goal is to reduce uninterrupted sitting without disrupting productivity.
More than just an office chair
Movably Pro is designed specifically for standing-height desks.

Rather than raising and lowering the desk throughout the day, the user changes posture while the desktop stays at a consistent working height. This allows continuous computer work without repeatedly interrupting the workflow to adjust furniture.
The chair supports multiple working positions, including:
- Sitting
- Standing
- Leaning
- Alternating legs
- Free standing
- Several intermediate positions
Movably describes the system as offering seven or more working positions within a single workstation.
The hardware includes an independently adjustable seat, adjustable backrest, integrated height-adjustable footrest, anti-fatigue standing mat, powered controls, and a durable steel frame.
Auto Mode encourages movement throughout the day
One of Movably Pro’s most distinctive features is its interactive prompting system.
Rather than relying on users to remember to stand up or stretch, the chair can provide gentle haptic prompts that encourage posture changes at regular intervals.
Users select their preferred movement interval—between one and fifteen minutes—and the chair reminds them when it’s time to transition to another supported position. These reminders can be customized through the Movably companion app.

The app also allows users to:
- Customize movement intervals
- Access manual chair controls
- View usage analytics
- Track movement progress
- Set wellness goals
Instead of treating movement as something separate from work, Movably attempts to build it directly into the workday.
Designed to work with standing desks
Unlike many ergonomic chairs, Movably Pro is intended to be paired with a standing-height desk.
Because posture changes occur through the chair itself, users generally don’t need to repeatedly raise and lower their desktop throughout the day. The company says the system is compatible with both electric and manually adjustable standing desks, provided they can be set to the appropriate standing height.
Movably notes that standing-desk converters are generally not recommended because they may restrict natural leg movement around the chair.
What the research says
Movably also highlights scientific research supporting its design philosophy.
The company references a study conducted at the University of Waterloo involving 16 participants performing simulated computer-based desk work over three separate two-hour sessions.
During the testing, participants completed tasks such as typing, reading, and data entry while using different workstation configurations. According to Movably, users who worked with the company’s novel chair experienced lower lower-back and leg discomfort compared with conventional sitting or standing conditions, while productivity was not negatively affected during the study.

As with many ergonomics studies, the research involved a relatively small number of participants under controlled conditions. While the findings are promising, larger studies would be needed to determine how the results translate across broader workplace populations.
Built for a wide range of users
Movably recommends the chair for users between approximately 5 ft 2 in (157 cm) and 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) tall.
Rather than relying on height alone, the company advises customers to use inseam measurements for the best fit because body proportions vary from person to person.
Other specifications include:
- Recommended inseam: 26.5–36.5 inches
- Maximum user weight: 275 lb (125 kg)
Assembly is relatively straightforward, with Movably estimating that most users can complete setup in around ten minutes using the included tools. The company also provides onboarding guidance to help new users become comfortable with the system during their first few days.
Design recognition
Movably Pro has also received recognition for its industrial design.
According to the company, the chair was developed in collaboration with a Swiss product-design firm and received Gold in the Workplace/Office Chair category at the 2023 International Design Awards.
While design awards don’t necessarily indicate long-term ergonomic performance, they do highlight the product’s distinctive approach compared with traditional office seating.
Pricing and availability
Movably Pro is available to order directly from the company’s official website.
At the time of writing, the smart ergonomic chair is priced at US$2,499. The company also offers financing options for eligible customers, allowing the purchase cost to be spread over time.
Movably encourages new users to complete an adaptation period before deciding whether the chair is right for them. The company recommends using the chair long enough to complete at least 1,000 tracked movements and provides a return policy that allows eligible returns after the initial adaptation period, subject to its published terms and conditions.

For U.S. customers, Movably also notes that purchases may qualify for HSA/FSA reimbursement with a qualifying Letter of Medical Necessity, although eligibility depends on an individual’s healthcare plan and should be confirmed with their provider.
A different philosophy for desk work
Movably Pro isn’t trying to become another ergonomic office chair with extra adjustments.
Instead, it challenges the long-held assumption that remaining in one carefully supported posture is the ultimate goal. By combining multiple working positions with customizable movement prompts, the system encourages users to keep changing posture throughout the day without leaving their workstation.
Whether this approach becomes the next evolution of workplace ergonomics remains to be seen, but it reflects a growing emphasis on movement rather than stillness. For people who spend hours at a standing desk and struggle to remember to change position, Movably Pro offers a different way of thinking about comfort, productivity, and the modern workday.
