Vietnamese craftsman Tran Long Ho has created a functional jet boat that resembles a UFO, effectively bringing the concept of a motorized flying saucer to life on water. Built entirely from scratch, this unique watercraft captures the iconic design of unidentified flying objects, offering both a visual spectacle and a thrilling ride for those fortunate enough to experience it.
Construction begins with Earthy materials
The construction process began with an earthy, sand-textured material that served as the foundation for the boat’s structure. Cement was poured over this base to harden it, providing a sturdy platform for further development. In a video documenting the build, Mr. Ho and his team meticulously molded the material to replicate the classic flying saucer shape. Once the desired form was achieved, they coated the surface with purple paint, adding to the otherworldly aesthetic of the vessel.
A steel frame and wooden hexagons
To reinforce the structure, a steel frame was assembled to hold the body of the watercraft in place. Thin slabs of wood were then cut into hexagon shapes and attached to the frame. These wooden hexagons served a dual purpose: they provided insulation within the cabin and contributed to the overall design theme. The team applied the first layer of coating over these wooden elements and allowed it to dry thoroughly before proceeding to the next steps.
Solar panel-like features enhance the design
An intriguing aspect of the boat’s exterior is the addition of solar panel-like plates that cover hexagon-shaped cutouts on the top surface. As shown in the video, these features mimic common depictions of UFOs in popular culture. While they resemble solar panels, their primary function appears to be aesthetic, contributing to the vessel’s futuristic look.

Engine placement and functionality
The engine is strategically placed at the heart of the watercraft, concealed just below the driver’s seat. The lower body of the jet boat is constructed with a hollow, oval shape to accommodate the engine and other mechanical components. This design choice not only aligns with typical UFO imagery but also provides practical housing for the motors that power the boat.

Electrical systems and cabin interior
For the boat’s electrical systems, switches and wiring were installed carefully. Mr. Ho opted to hide the wiring behind a layer of fuzzy material that lines the angles and corners of the hexagon cutouts inside the cabin. This approach keeps the interior clean and free from visible wires, enhancing the overall user experience. The switches are easily accessible, allowing the pilot to control various functions without hassle.

Piloting the UFO jet boat
Operating the jet boat requires some adjustments due to the limited overhead space within the cabin. Pilots need to recline slightly and extend their arms to reach the steering wheel. Despite this minor inconvenience, the vessel offers an exhilarating experience once the engine is revved up. As demonstrated by Mr. Ho during a test run on a river, the boat can zoom across the water at speeds comparable to a jet ski. The design also allows for occasional hops over the water surface, adding an extra layer of excitement to the ride.

A fusion of creativity and engineering
Mr. Tran Long Ho’s UFO jet boat is a remarkable fusion of creativity and engineering. By drawing inspiration from the enigmatic design of flying saucers and applying practical craftsmanship, he has produced a fully functional watercraft that stands out both in appearance and performance. The project showcases what can be achieved with ingenuity and attention to detail, turning a science fiction concept into a tangible reality on lakes and rivers.
